Recent recall campaigns for vehicles equipped with potentially-defective airbags show how important it is for every driver to be contacted quickly in the event of a risk concerning their vehicle. Automotive manufacturers rely above all on addresses recorded in the Vehicle Registration System (SIV) to inform the owners concerned.
A simple spelling mistake or error in the street name can be enough to prevent mail from being delivered correctly. If the address specified on the vehicle registration document is incorrect or has not been updated, after moving home for example, the owner will not receive the postal mail. The same applies if procedures for transferring ownership and acquiring a vehicle, in the context of a sale, are not carried out. In such instances, the new owner of the vehicle will not receive the postal mail. They will continue to drive with a vehicle that poses a risk to their own safety and that of others.
Furthermore, an incorrect address on a vehicle registration document or an administrative transfer of vehicle ownership procedure that has not been carried out via the Vehicle Registration System (SIV) may lead to other issues: traffic violation notices may not reach their recipients, which will automatically lead to an increase in the amount of fines for failure to pay on time.
