Description of the service

Apply for an International Driving Licence

Description of the service

À savoir

Country:

The secure "credit-card-sized” driving licence issued in France since 2013 complies with European and international law (Vienna Convention - 1968).
As a result, an International Driving Permit is, in principle, not needed for driving in a number of countries. These include all the countries of the European Union and the European Economic Area, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Côte d'Ivoire, Turkey, etc. - more information Find the list of countries.

Processing time:

The Cherbourg CERT-PCI is faced with a large influx of applications for International Driving Permits, and is doing its utmost to process them.

The current processing time is approximately 6 months following receipt of your letter via the post office. This length of time is subject to change, but it is advisable to apply as early as possible (the time taken to open the thousands of letters received each week must be included in this processing time).

Professional emergencies (except for residents of Paris, who must continue to contact the Paris Police Headquarters):

Given the situation of the Cherbourg CERT-PCI, only justified requests for professional reasons can be processed urgently by this agency. If this is the case for you, please send us, at the end of your online service which is still required, by post and in your digital file:

- a dated and signed statement from your employer justifying the trip abroad

- if you are a self-employed entrepreneur or the representative of your company/brand: A dated and signed sworn statement promising, in particular, not to make any misrepresentations, which would expose you to criminal prosecution, and justifying the business trip, as well asa K-Bis excerpt or any official document less than 3 months old attesting to your business.

Note: Any application sent without supporting documents will be processed within the timeframe in force when the letter was received and will not be given priority.

Business applications must be sent to the following postal address (except for residents of Paris - please note that sending by post does not exempt you from completing the online process):

CERT Permis de conduire internationaux

TSA 90098 URGENCE PROFESSIONNELLE

CS 20001

50653 CHERBOURG EN COTENTIN Cedex

For users who nevertheless used the standard postal address, if you have not received an automatic message informing you that your complete file has been received, it is impossible for the agency to retrieve it within a timeframe compatible with a professional emergency.

Please refer to the previous instructions and send a complete application (with proof of employment) to the postal address for professional emergencies.

Note: The International Driving Permit is a translation of your valid national driving licence. It is only useful outside the European Economic Area and does not give you any rights in France.

As a result, abroad (see the list of countries ) it must always be presented together with your valid national driving licence.
